The small size of the College is its major strength, with a supportive family atmosphere in which all individuals are recognised. Class sizes are small. Wanaka is a small town set on a beautiful lake in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The town has excellent services and facilities, as well being the gateway to Mount Aspiring National Park, and a World Heritage area.
International students are supported by the International Language Centre whose 5 dedicated staff provides them with all of the support they need to succeed. The International Language Centre has two ESOL classrooms, a student lounge, and a kitchen all alongside the administration offices where students have access to phones, SKYPE and staff. Students can use the centre for study at lunch times or after school.
Parents can look forward to hearing from The International Language Centre’s staff, who provide regular progress reports to parents back at home and provide weekly newsletters of what is happening at school. This sets a platform whereby the student can know his parents are aware of what is happening for them and that everyone is here to provide them with every chance of success.
The College has achieved excellent academic results over the years providing international student’s entry into NZ or overseas universities. Our International Language Centre supports students wishing to gain internationally recognised English exams such as IELTS, Cambridge, TOEFL or TOEIC.
Ethnically the college population is predominantly of European origin with approximately 10% of students having Mãori or Polynesian ancestry. The college’s socio-economic background is best described as middle class with a significant component of rural and self-employed families.
Lake Wanaka’s spectacular location is at the foot of the Southern Alps. Mount Aspiring National Park nearby makes it a magnet for outdoor lovers the world over. There are 4 world class ski areas for the skiier and snowboarders all within 1 hour from Lake Wanaka.
