Westland High School, Hokitika

Westland High School is a co-educational, state, secular secondary school from Years 7 to 13. The school roll is 350. 30% of students identify themselves as Maori. The school embraces Maori culture and international students have the opportunity to experience cultural diversity. The community

Hokitika (population is 3,500) is situated in the scenic Westland District on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Westland is famous for its national parks, conservation estate, magnificent rainforest, and scenic beauty, including majestic mountains and fast Driftwood-strewn beaches. The name “Hokitika” means “the place of return”. The town is located on the Coast - bordered by a wild beach to the west, the Hokitika River to the south, and the Southern Alps to the east. Hokitika is located an hour and a half drive from the ski fields, and accessible from Christchurch via a 30 minute flight or scenic 3 hour drive across Arthur’s Pass.
