William Colenso College opened as Colenso High School in 1959. It was the first co-educational school in the Hawke’s Bay region. In 2004 Colenso High School merged with a local intermediate school to become a Year 7 to Year 13 school and the name was then changed to William Colenso College.
The school is situated just a few minutes from the centre of the city of Napier. It is also within ten minutes of the airport and the beach. Most homestay situations are within walking distance of the school.
