STS Education AB (”STS”/”we”) respect your privacy. We strive to always protect your personal information in the best way possible and follow all the prevailing laws and regulations on personal data protection.
This policy applies to all information collected through our website www.sts.se which we receive in connection with your application, or that which you otherwise provide to us. In this policy, the term ”you”/”your” where applicable, or your child if the order relates to your child.

When you apply to travel on any of our programs or applying to become a host family with STS or provide us your details, you also leave your explicit consent to having your personal data processed in accordance with this policy. If you are under 18 years old your guardian(s) is to give their consent to the processing of your personal data.
We may send newsletters via e-mail to you within twelve months from the time you come home from your trip or have completed your studies abroad / your job as a host family with STS. If you have provided your consent, we will continue to send newsletters to you even after these twelve months have passed. You can always contact us if you do not want to receive any mailings.
We and our partners have taken several security measures to protect the personal data processed. We have firewalls and antivirus software to protect and prevent unauthorized access to our network and systems. Our employees have strict instructions to handle all personal data in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Only some of our employees have access to the facilities and systems where personal data is stored and this requires a username and password to log into the system.
In accordance with current data protection legislation, you have the right, once per calendar year to request, for free, details of your personal data which is processed by us, no matter how they are collected. If you would like this information, you should, according to current privacy laws, send a written request to us by mail to the above address. Requests cannot be sent by e-mail. The written request must be signed by you.
If your personal data, which we have stored, is in breach of applicable data protection law, you have the right to request that the personal data be corrected, blocked or deleted.
Applicable to participants of courses (Summer Academy/High School/STS Study Abroad)
The personal information which we process for you as a participant is the information you have provided us, typically your name, email address, home address, credit card number, birth date, and phone number. We also deal with details of any allergies, illnesses, disabilities, dietary preferences and other information you have provided to us in connection with your application. E.g. your educational background. We also handle the details of your requests which relate to your trip and particular interests linked to your journey.
The data is processed to manage and administer your application and / or order and to fulfil our commitments to you as students, no matter where in the world you are. In the application stage, we use the information so that we can best cater to your individual needs and match them against a suitable school, host family or other accommodation. If we do not receive all of this information, we cannot adjust our suggestions to your personal profile, and it is possible that you end up at a school, in a host family or an accommodation which does not suit you. Data is also needed for, among other things, obtaining visas and school placement.
In accordance with the objectives stated above, we may share your personal information with our partners, which is the payment intermediary and credit companies for payment or credit, placement organizations, our partners and local contacts, airlines, schools and host families. In order to fulfil your order/your journey in some countries we might even need to provide your information to the local authorities as it is a requirement to be able to stay a longer period. E.g. to US Homeland Security.
Your personal information will be stored, processed and shared with our partners in the country to which you are traveling, in order to be able to administer your journey and your stay. We also use IT providers which may store your information outside the EU, in the US. By accepting this policy, you agree that your personal data may be transferred to the US for physical storage.
Applicable to host families
The personal data we process for you to register your interest in becoming a host family is information you provide to us. This normally consists of, you and your family members’ names, your email address, home address, birth date, phone number, occupation, working hours and account number. We deal specifically with, information about your child's age, religious affiliation, if someone in your household have any serious illnesses, disabilities or mental health problems, if there are any pets in the household and other information you have provided to us in connection with your application. E.g. regarding housing.
We also handle data such as the preferences you submitted with your application to become a host family, such as the number of STS students you're willing to accept at the same time, and if you accept that students who require special dietary needs could live with you.
The data is processed to manage and administer your registration as host family and fulfil our commitments to you as a host family, as well as the STS students who will live or already do live with you. Data about you or any family member's illness, disabilities, mental health problems, and religion are treated in the best way to be able to meet your individual needs and match them against a suitable student.
In accordance with the objectives stated above, we may share your personal information with our partners, such as local agents and banks for the payment of compensation for the students you receive. In some countries, we may need to disclose your information to local authorities because it is a requirement for you and your family to become a host family. E.g. to the U.S. Department of State.
We also use IT providers which may store your information outside the EU, in the US. By accepting this policy, you agree that your personal data may be transferred to the US for physical storage.
